Fall 2022 Gourmet Dinner Themes and Dates


Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse Dinner at the ICI: Thursday Sept 15
Join us for our annual Kick-Off for the Fall Gourmet Dinner Series with Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar at the ICI.  Executive Chef Owner/Partner Tyler Barsetti, an ICI graduate, is the 4th ICI graduate to take over at the helm of Fleming’s kitchen, and he will be leading our students in preparing a special meal for you. This dinner will be $120 per person; 100% of the ticket cost will be considered as credit for the ICI Toque Society, although no tax-deductible credit will be given.

Mediterranean Croatian Cuisine: Thursdays, Sept 29, Oct 6, and Oct 13
Enjoy cuisine from the sun-drenched coast of Croatia, a country distinguished by an abundance of fresh fish and seafood, combined with traditional Mediterranean flavors.

Norwegian Cuisine: Thursday, Oct 27
Discover the regional ingredients from the Land of the Mi​dnight Sun, which now boasts as many Bocuse d’Or awards for culinary excellence as France. 

Ambassador Kenneth and Le Son Quinn Lecture Dinner: Thursday, Nov 10
Two years ago, as a way to honor Ambassador Ken Quinn, former President of the World Food Prize Foundation, and his wife, Le Son, we hosted our first guest lecture from Ambassador Quinn. This year, we are excited to invite you to our third annual lecture and dinner, with a Q&A to follow our gourmet meal. The four-course menu for this dinner will feature some of ICI Chefs’ and guests’ favorite recipes from past years’ dinners.

Norwegian Cuisine: Thursday, Nov 17
Discover the regional ingredients from the Land of the Midnight Sun, which now boasts as many Bocuse d’Or awards for culinary excellence as France.

Our Nov. 17 Norwegian Gourmet Dinner will feature a special appearance by ICI graduate Antoine L. Smith.  If you attended our dinners about 17 years ago, you may remember one of our students who occasionally sang between courses.  That young man is now an Emmy Award winner and is currently on Broadway in MJ the Musical! Antoine’s mother told him that, although he wanted to pursue a career as an opera singer, he needed to have another skill he could fall back on if he wasn’t successful.  He loved cooking, so that’s how he ended up as a DMACC culinary student.  Antoine was back in Des Moines when he appeared at the Des Moines Performing Arts’ Broadway production of Cinderella in 2013.  He is coming back now to the ICI to promote DMACC’s theater department, and he has agreed to sing two songs—between courses, as he did here when he was a student. It will be a very special evening! 

Pueblan and Central Mexican Cuisine: Thursdays, Dec 1, and Dec 8
Explore the complex cuisine of Mexico’s land-locked region, which includes native ingredients such as corn and flavorful chilies.

All dinners will be in the Lakeview Dining Room of the ICI, located in Building 7 on the DMACC Ankeny campus.

The cost for each dinner is $120 per person ($40 per person is tax-deductible and will be credited towards membership in the ICI Chef’s Toque Society​), unless otherwise noted in the dinner descriptions above.

Champagne or sparkling wine reception will begin in the ICI Atrium at 6:00 PM, and dinner will be served at 6:30 PM.  Please do not arrive earlier than 5:45, as students need time for set up.
