What You Need to Know
In alignment with Senior Year Plus (SYP) legislation and guidance from the Iowa Department of Education, all Concurrent Enrollment instructors must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- A master’s degree or higher in the discipline to be taught, or in a closely related field
- Relevant professional experience or certifications, when appropriate
Please note: These represent the baseline qualifications required by state policy. To ensure academic rigor and alignment with DMACC’s college-level standards, additional criteria may be established by individual academic departments. This may include discipline-specific credentials or targeted training prior to teaching a course.
In addition, all Concurrent Enrollment instructors are expected to complete annual professional development, as required under NACEP accreditation standards. This ensures alignment with current curriculum, assessment practices, and college expectations across all departments.
As a Concurrent Enrollment instructor, you play a vital role in delivering a complete college-level course experience to high school students. Using a DMACC-approved syllabus, aligned assessments, and authentic college materials, you ensure that the course content, learning outcomes, and academic rigor match what students would encounter on our campuses.
While you are encouraged to bring your unique teaching style and expertise to the classroom, the integrity of the college curriculum remains the foundation of every course.
Instructors submit attendance and final grades through the DMACC system, following the grading policies established by the academic department to maintain consistency and fairness.
Our shared commitment to academic integrity depends on timely and accurate submissions. Throughout the year, instructors will verify rosters, submit grades, and participate in required professional development.
- Key responsibilities include:
- Verifying rosters at the start of term
- Submitting midterm progress reports (if applicable)
- Submitting final grades
- Completing annual training or updates
As a valued part of the DMACC faculty community, you have access to a range of professional development and support resources. All CE instructors participate in annual training and are paired with a faculty liaison from their academic discipline. Liaisons provide instructional support, share departmental updates, and ensure curriculum alignment.
Whether you are a new or returning instructor, ongoing professional development is part of your continued eligibility and our shared commitment to excellence.
To maintain the academic quality of DMACC courses offered through concurrent enrollment, we follow a clear and collaborative process for monitoring and improvement. Faculty liaisons conduct regular site visits, and instructors participate in syllabus reviews and occasional student evaluations.
If concerns arise, DMACC’s approach is proactive and supportive, focused on improvement and aligned with our standards for academic excellence.
