Getting Started

Here is a step-by-step guide for signing up for the CDL training courses. Read the items below to see details.

Step 1

Read this information packet thoroughly. This packet answers all basic questions regarding obtaining your CDL and getting enrolled in DMACC’s CDL program.

Step 2

Complete application for admission into the CDL program: Click here to fill out application.

Fill out application ONE time.

Step 3

Upload required documents. Once you fill out the application listed in step 2, you will automatically receive an email within 30 minutes with a unique link to upload copies of required documents. 

The email will come from cdlprograms@dmacc.edu

  • Driver's License
  • Commercial Learner Permit (both sides in one photo)
  • Medical Examiners Certificate
  • Motor Vehicle Record* (must be dated within 3 weeks of submission)
    *Disqualifying Factor - 1 major violation in the last year and/or 2 major violations within the last 5 years

Step 4

Once you have completed entrance requirements and uploaded the documents needed, please call the Transportation Institute (515.965.7450) to pay and register for the ELDT online theory course.

Entry-Level Driver Training Theory course: This online course meets FMCSA ELDT standards and requirements and is a prerequisite to the behind the wheel driving course. This theory course is 100% online and takes a minimum of 15 hours and a maximum of 30 days to complete. You must complete the online theory course before you can start the behind the wheel course.

Step 5

After successful completion of the online CDL ELDT theory course, you will receive a signed certificate. Upload that certificate to your personal link and call the Transportation Institute (515-965-7450) to pay and register for the Behind the Wheel Driving course.

Note: This is a first come, first served registration. Students who have all entrance requirements completed and funding secured will be registered as soon as possible.

Behind the Wheel driving course. This 3 week course meets FMCSA ELDT standards and requirements. DOT testing is included for those who complete training successfully.
