Traditional hospital operating rooms need surgical technologists. So do many other health care settings… labor & delivery, radiology, cardiac cath labs, dermatology, cosmetic surgeons, even some private practices. Surgical technologists are in demand in Central Iowa and beyond! These jobs pay well and offer challenge and reward.

DMACC offers an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in Surgical Technology that more than readies you for this field.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the surgical tech field is growing faster than most other occupations. Surgical technologists are in demand in Central Iowa and beyond!

Pays Well

Starting annual salary is $47,000 - $54,000 a year in Iowa. The more experience, the more you will make.

  • Hands-on Experience - Our new 3D Laparoscopic Surgical Simulator, new operating rooms, and new sterile processing supply area on the DMACC Des Moines/Urban Campus means you now gain hands-on skills that could only be learned in a clinical setting before.

    You'll also develop valuable skills and professional references during your clinical practicum at leading hospitals and surgical centers throughout central Iowa. The program includes 500+ clinical practicum hours at 16+ clinical sites.

  • Expert Faculty - You learn from the best as part of a 24-student cohort. DMACC's surgical technologist instructors are Certified Surgical Technologists and Registered Nurses with highly diversified experience in all aspects of surgery.

  • Proven Job Placement Record - You earn the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential as part of the degree program. This means you leave DMACC already credentialed and qualified for positions anywhere in the country. Our job placement rate has been 100% since 2017. Most students land a job before graduating.
