Facilities Planning and Management

Facilities Planning & Management is responsible for operating and maintaining facilities at all 13 DMACC locations. This includes preventative maintenance, construction services, grounds and landscaping, custodial services, as well as many other duties. These services are provided in an efficient and economical manner to provide the college community a safe, healthy, and attractive learning environment.

Department Leadership

Construction Services oversees the carpentry and painting staff, as well as all outside contractor work for deferred maintenance. Construction Services is also responsible for large capital improvement projects.

DMACC staff provides the following services:

  • Painting - Staff routinely refreshes areas subjected to normal wear. Requests not associated with normal wear and tear, or for aesthetic preferences, must be scheduled on an individual basis and require separate department funding.
  • Light carpentry – whiteboard installation, minor flooring repair, etc.
  • Minor drywall repair
  • Ceiling tile replacement

Contractors provide the following preventative maintenance services:

  • Roof repair or replacement
  • Framing and drywall installation
  • Concrete repair and replacement
  • Flooring replacement

Capital Improvements:

Significant remodel projects, or large capital improvement projects, are reviewed by senior administration. Separate funding is necessary for the completion of these projects, and college bidding requirements must be followed. For further information, contact the Director, Construction Services, FP&M.

The primary responsibility of this department is to maintain and repair all existing interior and exterior electrical and mechanical systems. These systems include:

  • Interior plumbing, including restroom fixtures, drinking fountains, and showers
  • Interior lighting systems
  • Interior electrical systems
  • HVAC systems, including building automation systems that control building temperatures, boilers, and chillers
  • Exterior parking lot and road lighting systems
  • Exterior site utilities, including heating and cooling water lines, sewers lines, and primary electrical systems

Projects

This department also contributes to other remodel projects such as installing electrical circuits, new plumbing in restrooms and building updates, new roof-top heating/cooling units, and locating underground utilities.

Grounds Services

Grounds services encompass nearly everything outside of DMACC’s buildings. These include, but are not limited to:

  • mowing and trimming lawn areas
  • landscaping - including trees, shrubs, and flowers
  • apply fertilizer and weed control
  • removing snow and ice from walks, parking lots, and roads

NOTE: Every effort is made to clear roads, sidewalks, and parking lots of snow and ice in a timely manner. Continuous snowfall, ice storms, or wind can complicate and delay the removal process. Please be patient and rest assured we will get to your area.

Transportation Services

Transportation services are responsible for the following:

  • purchasing and maintaining the college fleet of vehicles
  • provide maintenance and repair
  • driver’s license verifications
  • moving college owed furniture and equipment

Mail Services

  • USPS mail pick up and delivery
  • Intercampus mail pickup and delivery
  • Coordination with Heartland AEA for intercampus mail that is to be delivered to another DMACC location

The DMACC Custodial Department provides daily custodial care. This department also takes care of waste haul away, recycling and pest control services for all campuses. Each building consists of either a DMACC or a contracted cleaning staff member assigned to perform the following scheduled work tasks.

DAILY (Monday thru Friday)

  • Sweep and dust mop hard surface floors
  • Empty waste and recycled containers/replace liners as needed
  • Damp mop floors in high traffic public areas
  • Vacuum carpets and straighten furniture
  • Clean and polish water fountains.
  • Thoroughly clean restrooms

WEEKLY

  • Spot clean walls and doors
  • Wash partitions in restrooms
  • Wash door glass in entryways
  • Wipe off table tops two times a week
  • Mop all other hard floor surfaces

SEMI-ANNUALLY AND/OR ANNUALLY

  • Strip or refinish all hard floors
  • Dust blinds
  • Extract carpeting and walk-off mats
  • Clean windows inside and outside

THE CUSTODIAL STAFF IS NOT PERMITTED TO DO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Clean bookshelves, personal items, or trinkets
  • Clean computers or special office or lab equipment
  • Remove chemical spills
  • Wash dishes
  • Clean refrigerators
  • Clean microwaves
