Advanced Nurse Aide

​​​​This course is designed for Nurse Aides who have completed the Nurse Aide 75 Hours (Basic) state approved course. The course provides an opportunity to gain the additional competencies and clinical experiences needed to seek employment in a hospital. The first 45 hours of the course are held in a classroom/lab and the remaining 30 hours of clinical will be in a hospital. Job opportunities include, but are not limited to, EKG tech, Emergency Tech, Scope Tech, Surgery Tech, and OB Tech. The agency or hospital will provide additional training in these specialized areas. The student must provide proof they have successfully completed a 75 hour state approved Nurse Aide course. ​

​​​Step 1 - Apply for Admission and Complete Orientation


 
Applying online for admission to DMACC is quick, easy, and FREE. 

 
  • ​Select “Nurse Aide” as your major if you only plan on taking Nurse Aide classes.
  • Watch your email for Orientation requirement details.
  • Once application is approved, continue to Step 2.

» Completion of State Approved Nurse Aide

Provide proof of completion of a state approved 75-Hour Nurse Aide course, or approval from current HSC172 instructor to register early for HSC182.

(Note: You may SKIP an item below if already submitted for Nurse Aide this academic year AND no changes are needed.)
» Course Acknowledgement 

Read closely and sign electronically that you understand and agree to the course requirements for attendance, etc. ​

» Notice & Release of Criminal Background Check

This gives DMACC permission to run the required background check for you.  Students do not have to run background checks on their own.

» Criminal History Reco​rd Check

DMACC will run a background check on every last name you have had in your life (ex: maiden, married, adopted, etc.).  Criminal convictions or documented history of abuse may prevent students from participating in the course.​

*NEEDED STARTING FALL 2021 FOR ADVANCED NURSE AIDE CLASSES*

Proof of successful completion of one of these approved CPR modules must be provided:

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) OR American Heart Association Heartcode (this is an online course followed by a face-to-face skills test) 

  • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer OR American Red Cross Health Care Provider course

All students must provide proof that they do not have active TB by having this form completed by your doctor. You may choose to have two skin tests or one TB blood test. Incomplete forms will not be accepted. See TB form for details.

All students must have a current physical (within one year of the end of the class you choose to take) as well as proof of required immunizations.

Step 3 – Register for a Class


  • Once ALL Step 2 prerequisites have been approved, we will send notification to your DMACC email along with online registration instructions, then you can register for a class.
  • Registration Opens: Nurse Aide courses follow DMACC credit registration dates
  • Registration Closes: Registration for all Nurse Aide classes closes 3 days prior to the start of each class. This provides time for us to complete required background checks before class begins.
  • Class Schedules: Advanced Nurse Aide classes can be found ​here​ by​ searching for SUBJECTNurse Aide Orderly or COURSEHSC 18​2. When reading the schedule, be sure to read all lines with days/times for the class (CRN) you are considering.  You may find many lines as these include your Theory, Lab, and Clinical dates.​

​Prerequisite Packet must be submitted and approved prior to online registration.
Online registratio​n closes three days prior to start of class.


Application & Registration

Students who wish to register for the nurse aide courses will need to apply for admission, be accepted at DMACC, and complete prerequisite packet prior to enrolling in the courses.

We will only accept completed packets. Packets can be submitted two ways only:

  • Scan completed full packet and email to cna@dmacc.edu from your DMACC email address, or
  • Deliver packet in person to the DMACC Ankeny Campus Building 24, Room 308. (Note: packets will not be ac​cepted in person at any other location.)
