Construction Management Technology Program Details

Are you interested in learning in a fast-paced, hands-on environment?

Focus on Residential and Commercial Construction Skills

The core curriculum is built around practical, hands-on training in skills like framing, drywall, interior trim work, siding, roofing, and concrete flatwork. This prepares graduates to enter either residential or commercial construction sectors.

Real-World Project Experience

A significant part of the program is dedicated to applying classroom theory and lab skills to an actual construction job, such as actively constructing multiple homes in the Des Moines Metro area.

Technical Knowledge in Construction Fundamentals

Students gain essential theoretical knowledge in construction materials, the care and use of hand and power tools, construction blueprint reading, and performing materials takeoff.

Fast-Track to Apprenticeship and Employment

Students can complete the Building Trades Diploma in one year (three terms - Fall, Spring and Summer). It is designed to provide entry-level skills for immediate employment as a carpenter or in other construction trades. Graduates of the program have an agreement with the Carpenter's Union that allows them to reduce one year from their official apprenticeship program.

Pathway to Higher Degrees

Students who complete the one-year Building Trades Diploma can choose to continue their education for an additional two terms to earn an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Construction Management and the Management and Leadership Certificate.
