Collaboration with UNI, Poetrypalooza Brings National Book Award Winner Martin Espada to DMACC

Martin Espada, National Book Award winning poet, to visit DMACC Ankeny Campus.

DMACC's Celebration of the Literary Arts series continues with another author visit this spring for a special collaboration with the University of Northern Iowa and Poetrypalooza

Martin Espada, a National Book Award-winning poet, will speak at Ankeny Campus on March 16. 

Espada has published more than twenty books as a poet, editor, essayist, and translator. His new book of poems is called Jailbreak of Sparrows. His previous book, Floaters, won the National Book Award for Poetry in 2021. 

Espada has received the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize, the Robert Creely Award, an Academy of American Poets Fellowship, a Guggenheim Fellowship, as well as several other awards and fellowship opportunities for his writing. 

A former tenant lawyer in Boston, Espada is a professor of English at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
