DMACC Faculty Handbook

Introduction

This website is meant to be useful to all DMACC regular faculty and adjunct faculty teaching credit courses. It should be especially helpful to new faculty who need to turn to one common source of information to answer the many questions they may have. But it is also filled with procedures, practices, and Web links that veteran faculty will need to have at their fingertips. Likewise, deans, provosts, and their administrative assistants will want to be familiar with the contents.

Consider this a working document. It should be updated annually and should include changes and additions that you contribute.

Don't forget that the DMACC College Catalog and the DMACC Student Handbook contain additional important reference material.

Furthermore, you may access DMACC Board Policies or Human Resources Procedures for additional information.

You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader for Windows (version 7.0 or greater) to view and download various forms and procedures that are mentioned.

One final note: Since DMACC students are expected to be familiar with DMACC policies and procedures affecting their activities, and ignorance does not excuse their violations, it is imperative that you understand the College's operating principles while you are employed here.

Des Moines Area Community College is one of fifteen public community colleges in Iowa. The district administrative office is located on the Ankeny Campus (Borgen Administrative Center), which is approximately ten miles north of downtown Des Moines. It is the largest community college in Iowa. The College district includes eleven counties that encompass 6,550 square miles or eleven percent of the state's land area. Instruction is delivered at six campuses: Ankeny, Boone, Carroll, Newton, Urban, and West. College programs are also offered in a variety of settings, including local high schools, community centers, and leased facilities. In addition, the College also offers a variety of training activities for, and in conjunction with, local business and industry. An extensive distance learning program provides convenient access to a growing list of College courses.
