Add, Drop, or Withdrawal

Students should consider meeting with an academic advisor to discuss enrollment changes and understand the consequences. Academic standing and financial aid may be affected by dropping classes.

*Student Holds, if applicable, may prevent any course registration/add/drop online via Banner Self Service​​.


Add a Course

  • Current students may add classes through the first 5 business days of the full 15 week​ semester (fall & spring) or full 10 week semester (summer)

Missed class time, before official registration, is the same as any absence 

  • ​After the above enrollment deadline, students may add courses that have not yet begun 
  • Student Holds and course restrictions or prerequisites may prevent enrollment, if applicable 
  • You may view the current credit class schedule on the DMACC website to search course offerings and review seats available – before registering online

How to Add a Class

  • Log in to myDMACC – with your DMACC username and password
  • Locate Tools then Classes 
  • Click Search the Course Schedule (opens a new window to search for current class offerings). When you are ready to register, go back to the myDMACC Tools/Classes and select Register for Credit Classes
  • When the next page opens, click Register for Classes
  • Select the appropriate term, then click Continue
  • Notice the Tabs along the top: Find Classes/ Enter CRNs/ Plans/ Schedule and Options)
    • After you have selected courses (from the Course Schedule web page noted above, click the Enter CRNs Tab to add each CRN. You must click Submit in the lower right corner
    • If you are successfully registered, you will see Registered (highlighted in green) under the Status column
    • You can click “Add Another CRN” to keep selecting courses
  • If special permission is required to register for a certain course, web registration is not permitted. Email permission must be sent directly from responsible DMACC faculty/staff to registration@dmacc.edu
  • Some courses are restricted to students accepted into specific programs
  • Student Holds, if applicable, may prevent adding or dropping courses online
  • Prerequisites are enforced. If you need to use a course from another institution to satisfy a prerequisite, email your unofficial transcript to registration@dmacc.edu
    • Include your DMACC ID, and the course you wish to register for
    • Your unofficial transcript must show your full name, semester and final grade in the prerequisite course

  • For help choosing what course(s) to take, Academic Advisors are available. Please call 515-964-6200 to receive advisor information
  • If you know the course(s) that you need and are having trouble registering yourself, you may call the Registration department at 515-964-6800 for assistance

  • The student must complete and sign an Add Drop Form
  • Special permission may be required. If so, appropriate​ faculty or administrator must also sign the form
  • Submit signed form to Registration or Student Services Department for processing​​

  • Due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) law, students are required to contact DMACC themselves to request enrollment.
  • Know the course information. The 5-digit Course Reference Number (CRN), including the course subject, course number, section and/or title is required for each class.
  • For academic advising assistance to choose courses, contact the Information Center at 515-964-6200 to receive advising information.​

To confirm your telephone enrollment changes

  • Log in to myDMACC and under Banner Self Service
  • Click Register for Credit Classes
  • Choose the correct term and then click on the Schedule and Options Tab
  • Students receive an automated Registration Activity email at the end of the day to confirm the previous 24 hours of enrollment activity.


Drop/Withdraw a Class

  • ​​IMPORTANT: Students are highly encouraged to meet with an Advisor to discuss possible consequences of dropping a course(s).
  • Financial Aid Recipients: For information about how dropping a course could impact your financial aid, visit a Financial Aid Advisor or visit the Attendance and Earning Financial Aid web page.
  • ​​​​​​Drops are not effective or valid until processed by the college
  • College​ drop/withdrawal deadlines vary according to the length the course meets - view drop deadlines
  • Courses dropped after the 100% refund period, for each term, will be recorded as a withdrawal  ('W' grade) on the student's offic​ial transcript and will affect t​​he student’s completion rate at DMACC​​

How to Drop a Class

  • ​Log in to myDMACC – with your DMACC username and password
  • Locate Tools then Classes 
  • Click Register for Credit Classes
  • When the next page opens, click Register for Classes
  • ​Select the appropriate semester then click Continue
  • Review Course Summary section in the lower right corner
  • If the course shows Registered in the Status column, you will have the option to select **Web Dropped** under Action (unless the drop/withdraw deadline has passed)
  • To finalize the drop – click Submit in the lower right corner. The status would then be changed to Deleted
  • Student Holds, if applicable, may prevent dropping courses via Banner Self-service
  • After the withdrawal deadline, you will not see the option to select **Web Dropped**
  • Refund deadlines are earlier than Withdrawal deadlines

Class Wait Lists

  • Many courses have waitlisting available and waitlists are on a first come first serve basis
  • Electronic notifications are sent to the student's DMACC Email ONLY
  • Students who have been offered a seat, must register themselves within 24 hours after the notification was sent
  • HOLDS may prevent a student from registering. It is recommended to resolve holds prior to adding to a course waitlist​
  • The following Waitlist procedure changes allow DMACC to have an accurate number of interested students to make enrollment capacity decisions
  • Students are only allowed to be on 1 waitlist for the same course
  • Students are not allowed to be on a waitlist for a class that has a time conflict with another course on their schedule
  • Students are not permitted to be on a course waitlist if they are already enrolled in another section of the same course​ 

How to Add a Class Wait List

  • Log in to myDMACC – with username and password
  • Locate Banner Self Service then Enrollment Services
  • Click Register for Credit Classes
  • When the next page opens, click Register for Classes
    • Click in the blank field next to Subject, Campus, Keyword, Instructional Method etc…) to see options or start typing criteria
    • Click the Search button at the bottom
    • If the Status of the course is FULL, you can click Add for the course(s) you want to waitlist for. After the course is added to "Summary" in the lower right corner, you can either select Waitlist or Remove (under Action)
    • When you are satisfied with your selections, click Submit in the lower right corner. You will see Waitlisted (highlighted in green) under the Status column
    • You can click “Add Another CRN” to keep selecting courses and then click Add to Summary
    • To officially be added to the course Waitlist, you need to click Submit in the lower right corner. You will see Waitlisted (highlighted in green) when it is completed.​​
  • ​​Select the appropriate semester then click Continue
  • To Find Classes, click the Tab along the top and then click the Advanced Search option
  • To Enter CRNs, click the Tab along the top and enter the CRNs in the blank field

Student may request to be added to a course wait list with Registration Staff in person.​
