For several years a top training topic for companies has been leadership development but sometimes a company only has a few individuals for a course which can make the needed training cost prohibitive. Enter DMACC’s Emerging Leaders initiative, a joint effort of DMACC Business Resources and DMACC Continuing Education. Following a focus group meeting in April 2018 to identify pertinent topics, the DMACC team went about contacting experts in leadership development to craft a 9-session series covering a wide array of leadership topics.
“It’s really helped us bring something to the marketplace that was missing,” says Jacki Boldt, a DMACC Business Resources Business Consultant who was heavily involved in the creation of the initiative.
The class meets for a half a day once a month and focuses on a signle topic with a different subject matter expert each time.
Leadership topics currently include:
- Introduction to Management
- Time Management and Meeting Management
- Generational Differences
- Unconscious Bias/Diversity and Inclusion
- Emotional Intelligence
- Leadership to Fit the Situation
- Change Management
- Difficult Conversations/Employee Discipline and Documentation
- Coaching and Developing Your Employees
The first 9-month series began in September 2018 and quickly hit the 30-seat cap. Due to continued strong interest in the program, a second series began in January 2019. DMACC is currently evaluating a possible 3rd cohort for mid-2019. The training can also be provided for a single company if they have a number of leaders needing the training.
