Pleasant Hill Donates Ladder Truck to DMACC’s Fire Science Program

Posted 8/3/2022

UPDATE 8/9/2022 - Due to a change in President Denson’s schedule, he will not be driving the fire truck from Pleasant Hill to the Ankeny Campus, but we will be having the formal announcement at 2 p.m. in front of Bldg. #20.

DMACC President Rob Denson will drive the donated fire truck to the Ankeny Campus where there will be an announcement and facility tours.

WHO:

Pleasant Hill’s Fire Chief and DMACC Fire Science graduate Jamie Xayavong (pronounced zy-oh-vong) and public officials from Pleasant Hill will be joined by DMACC President Rob Denson, Jeanie McCarville Kerber, DMACC Dean of Health and Public Services, and DMACC Fire Science, Paramedic and EMS Professors to announce the community’s major gift to the College.

WHAT:

President Denson will go to the Pleasant Hill Fire Department (located at 5151 Maple Drive in Pleasant Hill) at 1 pm to pick up the ladder truck and drive it back to the Ankeny Campus prior to the donation announcement. The 20-year-old Pleasant Hill ladder truck will be the newest addition to DMACC’s “Fire Department” and used by the Fire Science students to train, safely operate and prepare for a career in fire service. It will compliment DMACC’s pumper truck and ambulance that students already use in the program.

WHEN:

2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 9, 2022

WHERE:

DMACC Ankeny Campus
Building 20, Rooms 1&2
2006 South Ankeny Blvd., Ankeny, Iowa

(The announcement will be followed by tours of the Fire Science facilities.)

WHY:

DMACC Fire Science students will receive additional training on this unique fire truck. It’s an experience that will help them be work-ready their first day on the job. That’s important as West Des Moines, Ankeny, Waukee, Polk City and other metro and rural fire departments continue to expand.
