  • The deadline to enter this year's contest is Feb. 12, and prizes will be awarded to the top-three designs in both the root beer and beer label design categories.

  • The winning designs will also be featured on custom ciLive! 12 bottles produced by Court Avenue Brewing Co.

DMACC and Court Avenue Brewing Co. are pleased to announce a call for artists to enter the Second Annual ciLive! Bottle Label Contest in conjunction with ciLive! 12 at DMACC. The popular and free ciLive! at DMACC speaker series – also known as Celebrate Innovation Live! – will take place on March 10-11 and is celebrating its 12th Anniversary in 2021. This year's events will be held 100 percent virtually for the first time in ciLive! history, with free livestreaming of all speaker presentations available via the free e360tv appYouTube and Facebook Live.

The ciLive! Bottle Label Design contest, which launched last year and received nearly 100 entries in 2020, is a unique opportunity for artists to interpret and incorporate the ciLive! theme into an original design that will be featured on a custom ciLive! 12 bottle label produced by Court Avenue Brewing Co. in Des Moines. This year's ciLive! theme is “Amplified," and the contest will again include both root beer and beer label categories. Entries will be judged based on quality, originality, creativity and how well the ciLive! 12 theme is incorporated.

“We were delighted by the response we received last year for our first-ever ciLive! Bottle Label Design Contest, and together with our partners at Court Avenue Brewing Co., we can't wait to see the creative designs submitted by artists in 2021," said ciLive! founder and DMACC West Campus Provost Dr. Anthony Paustian. “This year's ciLive! theme focuses on the incredible innovation and amazing achievements that are possible when we work together to amplify imagination and inspiration."

Speakers at ciLive! 12 will include a NASA analog astronaut, a leading oceanographer and deep-water explorer, a top wilderness survivalist and History Channel star, a classical violinist turned innovative composer, a world-renowned primatologist and wildlife correspondent for the National Geographic Channel, ghost hunters featured on the Discovery Network and more (watch a video preview here).

ciLive! has been hosted by the DMACC West Campus in West Des Moines since the event's inception in 2010. The West Campus began receiving national recognition for its modern approach to learning soon after campus construction was completed in 2001. Through partnerships with a variety of hardware and software developers, as well as providers of academic content, emerging technologies continue to be an integral part of the DMACC West Campus learning environment.

Contest categories, deadlines and prizes

The ciLive! Bottle Label Contest root beer label design category is open to anyone age 20 or younger, with parental consent required for entrants under the age of 18. Separately, the beer label design category is open to anyone age 21 or older with the exception of DMACC employees, who are not eligible to enter.

The deadline to submit artwork files by email to contest@dmacc.edu is 5 p.m. CST on Feb. 12. Submissions sent by postal mail must be postmarked no later than Feb. 8.

Entries will be reviewed by a panel of five ciLive! 12 judges on the criteria of quality, originality, creativity and incorporation of “Amplified" theme. The judges will select the three top entries in each category (root beer and beer), and these finalists, along with the public, will be invited to attend an official awards ceremony during the livestreamed broadcast of ciLive! 12 on March 10-11. The first, second and third-place winners in each of the two categories will be announced at this event.

Prizes will be VISA gift cards awarded in the following amounts: First place ($500), second place ($200) and third place ($100). Additionally, each first-place winner will be invited to enjoy a complimentary celebration dinner for themselves and one guest at Court Avenue Brewing Co. in Des Moines.

The winning artists and their designs from the 2020 contest can be viewed online here.
