Survey cites DMACC’s quality, affordable and student-centered education

DMACC has been voted the “Best Community College in Iowa” by CITYVIEW readers, according to the just-released results of CITYVIEW’s 2020 “Best of Des Moines” Readers’ Poll.

CITYVIEW staff said thousands of votes were cast in the annual survey, which identifies “the most deserving businesses, nonprofits, sports franchises, malls, doctors, lawyers, politicians and just about every other category imaginable.”

The poll also has statewide implications, with everything and everyone from “Best Local Hospital” (Iowa Methodist Medical Center) to “Best Elected Official” (Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds) voted on in the comprehensive survey.

For the past seven years, DMACC was voted the “Best Place to Continue Your Education,” but this year the education voting categories changed and CITYVIEW readers still voted DMACC the go-to place for your first two-years of education.

“Half of all U.S. undergraduates are from community colleges, and central Iowa offers citizens the opportunity to attend one of the best,” the CITYVIEW survey results stated. “The school provides quality, affordable, student-centered education and training designed to empower students in their pursuit of life’s opportunities and career goals.”

In addition to DMACC’s 12 Central Iowa locations, the College enrolled 3,264 online students from nearly every county in Iowa last fall, an increase of nearly 20 percent over fall 2018.

“The CITYVIEW Readers’ Poll exemplifies DMACC’s commitment to student success,” said Rob Denson, DMACC President and CEO. “Our faculty, remodeled and new facilities, university partners and business advisory boards are all dedicated to helping students achieve their vision of the American dream. We’re also grateful to CITYVIEW readers for their votes and faith in us.”

The runners-up in the Best Community College category were Kirkwood in Cedar Rapids and Iowa Central located in Fort Dodge.

CITYVIEW readers voted Iowa State University as the “Best State University,” while Drake University took the honors as the “Best Private College or University in Iowa.”
