Proceeds from Christmas Concert go to DMACC Music Scholarship Fund
A recent Christmas Concert by world-famous bass-baritone Dr. Simon Estes raised $30,000 to support the Des Moines Area Community College’s (DMACC’s) new Music Scholarship Fund dedicated in the singer’s name.
The first-in-its-kind concert featured Christmas songs sung by Dr. Estes, the DMACC Chamber Ensemble and choirs from Ankeny High School and Ankeny Centennial High School. The performance was held December 19 at the Des Moines Civic Center.
Dr. Estes is a Visiting Professor of Music at DMACC. The concert was part of his efforts to help young people pursue careers in music at DMACC.
In addition, Dr. Estes dedicates much of his time to supporting his Foundation’s efforts to help eliminate malaria in Africa through the United Nation’s “Nothing But Nets” Malaria Project.
