Respiratory Students Receive Research Scholarship

Posted 7/7/2017

DMACC Respiratory Therapy students Maria (Leah) Grieser (second from left) and Sejal Patel, both of Ames, receive congratulations from DMACC Respiratory Therapy Professors Amy Boeckmann and Kerry George for being named the George Burton, MD Education Research Scholarship recipients.  Each received a $1,000 scholarship from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) at a forum held in Tucson, Arizona. The award is sponsored by Kettering National Seminars.

Grieser and Patel developed their project, Esophageal Manometry in Intubated Adult ICU Patients, into a paper that was submitted to CoARC in their application for the scholarship.  The submissions for this scholarship are generally enrolled in baccalaureate and master’s degree respiratory therapy programs.

Grieser and Patel are the first community college students to receive this award.
