DMACC Boone Campus Students Place at PBL Competition

The P​hi Beta Lambda (PBL) student business organization of the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Boone Campus recently participated in the State Leadership Conference held at the DMACC Hunziker Center on March 31 and April 1. The students, accompanied by their adviser Christine Moon, competed against other Iowa college students in various business related events, receiving both individual and chapter awards. 

The PBL place winners include:

Nick Kelly of Urbandale placed first in Contemporary Sports Issues, first in the Future Business Executive category and second in the Business Communication event.

Arlo Starbuck of Boone placed first in Business Decision Making, first in the Community Service Project Chapter event, first in Management Analysis and Decision Making and fourth in the Impromptu Speaking category.

Rob Kitchen of Mascoutah took first place in the Business Team presentation (with Micaela Bretey of Boone), first in the Job Interview event and first in the Public Speaking category.

Charity Benson of Boone captured first place in the Community Service Project Chapter event, second in the Business Ethics Team category (with Mary Rowan of Vanderbilt, PA) and third in Hospitality Management.

Brandie Lee of Boone took first in Hospitality Management, second in Retail Management and third in the Client Service event.

Michaela Bretey of Boone took first place in the Business Presentation Team event (with Rob Kitchen of Story City) and fifth in the Impromptu Speaking category.

Mary Rowan of Vanderbilt, PA took home a first place in the Community Service Project Chapter event, third in Public Speaking and fourth in Justice Administration.

Weston Powers of Boone placed first in Macroeconomics, first in Microeconomics and third in the Financial Concepts event.

Kara Sloan of Boone captured a first in the Future Business Educator category, second in Impromptu Speaking and third in Desktop Publishing.

Cassie Zinnel of Farnhamville placed second in Accounting Principles, third in Financial Concepts and fourth in Personal Finance.

Cheyanne Fleener of Boone placed second in the Hospitality Management event, third in Retail Management and fourth in the Client Service category.

Catherine Sikes of Boone placed second in Computer Concepts.

Christine Stammer of Dell Rapids, SD took third place in Computer Concepts and a fifth place in the Desktop Publishing category.

YiNessa Millbrooks of Olive Branch, MS placed third in Impromptu Speaking and fourth in the Public Speaking event.

The place winners will have the opportunity to attend the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, CA this summer.
