Demonstrating a complete dedication to energy conservation, DMACC hasbecome an ENERGY STAR Partner.
"By becoming an ENERGY STAR Partner, we are showing our full commitment to energy conservation and efficiency," said DMACC President Rob Denson. "ENERGY STAR is the most recognizable brand in the world when it comes to energy conservation. As members of our community see the familiar ENERGY STAR logo throughout our district, it will serve as a reminder to them of our total commitment to preserving critical tax-payer dollars as well as our environment."
The cost of utilities is the second largest budget line-item for DMACC, and the prices for electricity, natural gas, heating oil and water have been steadily increasing. To combat these rising energy and utility costs, the district entered into a partnership with Cenergistic, to implement a comprehensive organizational behavior-driven energy conservation program throughout all its buildings and campuses. Cenergistic earned the 2011 and 2012 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award from the United States Environmental Protection Agency and was named ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for 2009 and 2010, validation at the highest level of their efforts in energy conservation and efficiency. The company guarantees the conservation program will save taxpayer dollars.
"Each of us can make a difference through energy conservation, because people use energy, school buildings don't," President Denson continued. "We are part of a daily effort to improve the environment and save money district-wide. There are dozens and dozens of changes, large and small, that we have implemented that are saving energy without affecting our comfort or educational goals. Our students are learning, too, what it means to preserve precious natural resources."
The goal of DMACC's energy conservation program is to reduce energy consumption by 25-30% annually through the first ten years of its energy conservation program.
