College students not only have to deal with adjusting to high-level coursework, social changes, and living away from home, but also health-inhibiting factors like tight budgets, busy schedules, and figuring out how to live well without parental guidance. Physical fitness is vital to student health, and as students navigate college, establishing and maintaining healthy habits is critical to their success. One factor in remaining an attractive option for students, faculty and staff is having high quality, modern facilities available for study and recreation. The current facilities on the Boone Campus are dated, overcrowded and do not accommodate the current needs of the students. DMACC's athletic teams practice off site during much of the year and when the facility is used by the student athletes it limits the availability for our student population.
The proposed DMACC Boone Campus Student Activity Center will provide a wealth of fitness options to help students foster a sense of overall well-being. This ambitious project adds 28,500 square feet to the existing gymnasium. The addition includes a practice and performance center, an expanded weight room, an athletic training room, equipment that will allow for indoor practices for outdoor sports, storage space, an office, a family room, and enhanced space for recreation and sports. This project will also allow DMACC to host community basketball and volleyball tournaments, youth camps and more. By supporting this expansion on the Boone Campus, you can ensure that sufficient resources will be dedicated to students and athletes pursuing their passion at DMACC. All funds contributed to this capital campaign are tax deductible and will be used exclusively on the Boone Campus.
