Speaker: Carson King
September 28, 2020
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Location: AN05 Virtual
After stumbling into the national spotlight due to a well-placed sign on ESPN College Game Day, Carson found himself running a national fundraiser. The campaign ended up raising more than $3 million from over 35,000 people. Much of the success happened thanks to social media, as it has the power to bring people together for a common good. This type of success can also make your life very public. After a member of the media brought a racially insensitive tweet from 2011 to Carson's attention, he issued a statement apologizing for quoting the tweet from comedy show Tosh.O. Now that the accidental fundraiser has come to a close, Carson uses his experience and platform to educate people about the power of social media, both good and bad. He also speaks on random acts of kindness and how one person can make a difference.
