Former DMACC student Alexander Solla (seated) of Johnston has her hair curled by former DMACC student Jessie Smith of Ankeny prior to the start of the DMACC Fashion Institute's 10th Annual Fashion Show on Thur., April 18th, at the Black Box Theatre on the DMACC Ankeny Campus. The celebration featured a total of three runway shows, held April 18th-19th, and a "Midnight Metro" theme that was inspired by New York City's subway system.

Students presented their design creations across four categories: Cut and Sew, Styled, Reworked and Avant-Garde.

  • Cut and Sew: In this category, the art of cutting and sewing fashion is highlighted. Each ensemble is a testament to the skills and precision of the sewist from pattern drafting to final construction details.

  • Styled: This category places emphasis on the skill and creativity of fashion styling. Each ensemble is a testament to the art of pairing garments, accessories and make-up to create cohesive and captivating looks.

  • Reworked: This category celebrates the ingenuity of upcycled fashion. Each ensemble tells a story of transformation, breathing new life into forgotten garments and materials.

  • Avant-Garde: In this category, students put their imagination and creativity on display. From daring silhouettes to unconventional materials, each ensemble pushes the boundaries of traditional fashion.

Bears are 32-8 overall and 15-3 in the ICCAC

  • Sophomore Courtney Donahue (above) throws third consecutive no-hitter in 17-0 win in the opener.

  • Freshman Hilary Wilson drives in four runs in first game.

  • Freshman Josie McCuddin drives in three runs in 7-4 win in the second game.

Sophomore Courtney Donahue of Marshfield, Wis., pitched her third consecutive no-hitter and her fourth no-hitter in her past five outings as the DMACC softball team swept a doubleheader from Ellsworth Community College (ECC) on April 17th at Iowa Falls.

Donahue's no-hitter came in a 17-0 win in the first game and she got support from freshman Hilary Wilson of Solon who drove in four runs. Freshman Josie McCuddin of Truro had three RBIs in DMACC's 7-4 win in the second game.

Donahue went just five innings as the game was called because of the mercy rule at that point. She struck out 12 and did not issue a walk in improving to 17-2 for the season.

DMACC took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, pushed its advantage to 9-0 with eight runs in the second and closed out the win with four runs in the third, one in the fourth and three in the fifth.

The Bears collected 17 hits in the win, including three by Wilson, and two each from McCuddin, sophomore Campbell Kelley of Rock Island, Ill., sophomore Hannah Ironside of Swisher, freshman Breanna Caffery of Bettendorf, freshman Delaney Milanowski of Spring Green, Wis., and freshman Keaton Frere of Andalusia, Ill.

Milanowski had a pair of doubles, and Wilson, Caffery, McCuddin and Frere had one double apiece. Caffery recorded a triple.

In addition to Wilson's four RBIs, Caffery and Milanowski had three RBIs apiece and McCuddin and Frere drove in two runs apiece.

Caffery got DMACC on the board in the first when she singled, got to third on a pair of groundouts and scored on Wilson's base hit. Caffery had a bases-loaded triple during the Bears' eight-run rally in the second, Wilson had a two-run double in the inning, Kelley had an RBI single and Milanowski drove in two runs with a double.

What is the DMACC Diversity Commission?

MissionThe Diversity Commission was developed to provide diversity awareness and to increase full recognition and appreciation of human value. The Diversity Commission actively advocates for diversity, equity and inclusion in all aspects of institutional life.

Vision: The Diversity Commission assists in creating a culture in which all people are valued and supported, and celebrates the similarities and differences among us. In doing so, we help prepare the DMACC community to live, learn and work together in a global society.

  • Members attend an all-Commission meeting, held once a month for approximately 90 minutes. Meeting schedules will be decided prior to each term based on the availability of the majority of the members and leadership team.

  • Members also sit on at least one Commission subcommittee (such as Student Services, Events/Partnerships, Awards, and Curriculum), attend Commission events, and promote the work of the Commission. The total time commitment is around five hours per month.

  • Members serve a 3-year term on the Commission (note: students may serve a shorter term based on their time at DMACC). If you join the Commission, your term will begin June 2024. You will be invited to any summer meetings but if you are off-contract for the summer, you are not required to attend.

Who can be a member?

Any member of the DMACC community, including full-time faculty, adjunct faculty, full-time staff, part-time staff, and students.

How do I become a member?

Letters should contain your name, position, campus, the name of your supervisor (or supporting reference for students), and why you want to be part of the group. Once we have received letters, we will verify eligibility with supervisors or references and then reach out to invite you to the Commission.
