2008 Diversity Award

President Denson receives the 2008 Diversity AwardDes Moines Area Community College (DMACC) has been named the winner of the Greater Des Moines Partnership's prestigious 2008 Diversity Award. The announcement was made at the Partnership's annual meeting on January 10, 2008.

The award recognizes companies that create a diverse work force and client base, as well as an "environment of inclusion in greater Des Moines."

In 2007, DMACC was also a finalist for the Diversity Award, which was granted to Nationwide Property and Casualty.

In 2008, DMACC was named the Diversity Award recipient with Iowa Health-Des Moines, Kemin Industries and Wells Fargo named finalists. This is the ninth year in which the Greater Des Moines Partnership has bestowed a Diversity Award.

DMACC President Rob Denson and members of the DMACC Board, faculty, and staff accepted the award at a special reception on January 10, 2008.

To qualify for the Diversity Award, DMACC was a member of the Greater Des Moines Partnership. The following criteria was be used to select the award recipient:

  • Employee Demographics
  • Diversity Business Case
  • Recruitment
  • Employee Development
  • Retention
  • Vendor/Supplier Relationships
  • Additional Diversity Efforts

After the applications were evaluated, finalists were selected and contacted to arrange an on‑site visit. Awards were given in the following categories: small, medium and large size companies. The determination regarding the categories awarded were based upon the quality and number of applications received in each category. A committee consisting of a past award recipient, representatives from the Greater Des Moines Partnership Board and the Diversity Committee determined the award winner(s).
