This no-cost, non-regulatory, confidential program of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources is administered by the Region XII Council of Governments.  

Since 1990, the Iowa Waste Exchange has matched over 3.5 million tons and saved Iowans more than $90 million by

  • Identifying marketable waste/revenue streams
  • Obtaining markets for value added byproducts
  • Locating recycled byproducts for production
  • Providing grant writing assistance and identifying financial resources
  • Assisting in establishing protocols, i.e. waste management plans, EMS plans, SOPs
  • Offering public speaking, continuing education, guest articles and special projects and events as requested and assigned
