Innovation Live) is a local-facing conference with world-class presenters, making it a unique combination of a university lecture series, Ted Talks, and SXSW. Unlike other large conferences, each talk is followed by a speaker meet-and-greet where attendees can converse with the speakers and collect signatures

ciLive! has partnered with Court Avenue Brewing Company to create ciLive! themed labels to help promote and bluster the message and mission of ciLive!

Contest Guidelines

Who can enter?

The root beer label category is open to anyone* age 20 or younger, with parental consent required for entrants under the age of 18. Separately, the beer label category is open to anyone* age 21 or older.

Entries will be judged based on originality, creativity, and how well the submission addresses this year's contest theme.

*DMACC employees are not elegible to participate in this contest.

What should my artwork include?

Your artwork should focus on ciLive!'s 2020 theme “The Art of Imagination." All artists are encouraged to use their own creative imaginations; however to not be excluded from the contest, the work must be deemed as appropriate and free of discriminatory aspects and explicit language.

The artwork can be in the form of an electronic file (Adobe Photoshop JPEG or Illustrator Vector PDF), photograph (color), a painting, a drawing, or a sketch. All hand-created artwork must be 2D and flat. (Hand-created art must be 8 ½" x 11"). It can be mailed if hand-created or emailed if artwork is in an electronic format. (See sizing requirements below.)

​ How large should the artwork be?

All mailed artwork must be 8.5"x11".

A Vector-Based Art (i.e. Adobe Illustrator) is preferred for a digital submission. If completed in Bitmap (i.e. Photoshop) saved as a JPEG, the file cannot be smaller than 7200 x 4275 pixels and no larger than 50MB.

What do I need to submit?

A valid submission will contain the following information:

  1. An original copy of the artwork. Each piece must be original, authentic, unpublished, the sole property of the entrant, and not previously submitted in any other contest. Make sure to include a sentence or two on your submission form describing your artwork.
  2. A copy of the artist's photo ID. Any photo ID is acceptable. This is only needed to verify your identity and age.
  3. Your personal information cannot be in printed on the front of the artwork. Print the following information on the back or on a separate sheet attached to your artwork:
  • First and last name
  • Mailing address
  • Phone number
  • E-mail address
  1. Include a completed and signed entry form. Print the entry form and send it to us when you send your artwork. Entries cannot be accepted without a signed entry form.

How should I submit my artwork and entry form?

Artwork must be sent by mail or emailed along with the entry form (which includes your contact information), and a copy of your photo ID. 

If submitted via email to, a vector-based image file is preferred. If it is completed in bitmap using a JPEG file, the file cannot be smaller than 7200 x 4275 pixels and no larger than 50MB.

If submitted via postal mail, the artwork must be sent in its original form with the size being 8.5" x 11".

Important: You must have a signed and completed entry form (if under 18, a parent or guardian must sign) to enter.

When is the deadline?

  • Emailed submissions: Must be received by 5 p.m. CST, on Friday, February 7, 2020.
  • Mailed submissions: Must be postmarked by Monday, February 3, 2020.

How will the artwork be judged?

To prevent any bias, all of the artist will remain anonymous. Entries will be reviewed by a panel of five judges on these criteria:

  • Quality
  • Originality
  • Creativity
  • Incorporation of “The Art of Imagination” theme

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in both the root beer and beer categories. Winners will receive VISA gift cards in the following amounts:

  • First place ($300)
  • Second place ($100)
  • Third place ($50)

Additionally, each first-place winner will be invited to enjoy a complimentary celebration dinner for themselves and one guest on March 9, 2020, at Court Avenue Brewing Company in Des Moines.

The winner's artwork will appear on the ciLive! website. The six finalists for each label (beer and root beer) are expected to attend the unveiling and award ceremony at Jordan Creek Mall (101 Jordan Creek Pkwy, West Des Moines, IA 50266) on Saturday, March 7, 2020. Ed Wilson from WHOtv (Channel 13) will serve as master of ceremonies.
