Getting Started

Four Easy Steps to Get Started!

As an Adult Learner, your time is valuable, so we've made it as simple as 1-2-3 for you to apply for admission to Des Moines Area Community College.

  1. Apply online, or by mail or in person to:

    Admissions Office
    Des Moines Area Community College
2006 South Ankeny Blvd., Building 1
    Ankeny, IA 50023

There is no charge to apply for admission to DMACC!

If you have previous college experience and want credit for it, submit official transcripts from all colleges attended.

  2. Complete the COMPASS test and ALEKS math placement assessment-to determine how well prepared you are for various levels of coursework-is only required for full-time students. (Please note: Certain part-time students may be required to complete an assessment.) Previous college credit may meet this requirement.

To register for the FREE COMPASS test, call any DMACC Testing Center:

    Ankeny: 515-964-6595
    Boone: 515-433-5096
    Carroll: 712-792-1755
    Newton: 641-791-1724
    Urban/DM: 515-248-7218
    West DM: 515-633-2408

  3. Complete any program-specific requirements. If the DMACC program you want to pursue has specific requirements, you'll need to complete them to qualify for admission to that program.
