The Writing Center is dedicated to providing a supportive learning space for the DMACC Boone Campus (and Hunziker Center) to practice and enjoy the process of writing. As a community college writing center, we realize the diverse needs of our student body, faculty, and staff. We welcome all levels of writers. Writing Center consultants believe that learning to write effectively is a journey in which we are all concerned. By working with students one-on-one or in small groups, consultants work with writers as they develop ideas, read critically, and hone rhetorical and syntactical skills in order to write well and authentically.
At the center, we believe composition is a process, as well as growing as a writer. Writing first begins away from the page with inventing and researching ideas. The recursive writing process, though, cannot happen without revising the original content and delivery. The writing experience is not limited to the individual paper, but is a continuous process for all levels of writers.
At no point do consultants write these papers for the student. We act as a sounding board for ideas and a source for support and feedback. We also provide writers with strategies and practice with conventional English language. The Writing Center prefers to work with students face-to-face and asks that online students use DMACC’s online tutoring service, Smarthinking.
We are happy to help students with a variety of writing tasks.
