About

DMACC's In My Boots 5K was created by Sean Taylor in 2014, and is now organized by the In My Boots Student Group. The In My Boots Student Group aims to raise community awareness of the struggles that many American service men and women encounter after returning from combat. In 2018, for our fifth annual run, walk, and ruck, we invite you to join us in support of Iowa's currently deployed men and women.

We are including a Shadow Run involving soldiers deployed in overseas units, running in conjunction with our event. DMACC Boone's Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society chapter will also be holding a food drive during the race. All food collected will be donated to local shelters.

Online registration will be starting soon. To donate, use our Sponsorship Form. Those who donate over $100 will be listed on the back of the runners' t-shirts.

Won’t you join our service men and women in the assistance of their comrades-in-arms?

You're Invited to a Series of Movies

To kick off the 5th Annual “In My Boots” in spring, we are going to show a series of three veteran-affairs-related films. We will show these movies in January, February, and March 2018. Through the group, “Paws & Effect” we received a substantial grant enabling us to show these top quality- highly honored and acclaimed --films. We want to strongly encourage not only campus participation, but participation from the entire DMACC district and the whole community. Please make plans now to be included, along with all community members, as we examine many veteran-related issues.

The movie Almost Sunrise
(a picture as they walked across Iowa!)
Almost Sunrise follows two Iraq veterans, Tom Voss and Anthony Anderson, both tormented by depression for years after they returned home and pushed to the edge of suicide. The two embark on an extraordinary journey – a 2,700 mile walk across the country from Wisconsin to California, in order to reflect on their haunting experiences of war and to ultimately, save themselves.
