On
Friday November 11th and Saturday November 12th, Boone Campus PBL students joined together with students from Urban DMACC, Upper Iowa University and South Dakota State University to participate in the Fall Leadership Conference. Students participating in the conference were Kara Sloan, Arlo Starbuck (State of Iowa PBL President), Mary Rowan (State of Iowa PBL Secretary), Rob Kitchen (State of Iowa PBL Treasurer), Jake Escher, Christine Stammer and Dustin Reis.
On Friday the students were led on a tour of the Casey’s facility in Ankeny by the company's Vice President of Marketing, Mike Richardson. Following that tour, students went to a hotel where they listened to keynote speaker Kent Stock, whose story was told in the movie The Final Season. Saturday morning the students toured Des Moines business The Forge by Pillar Technologies, led by Linc Kroger, followed by a tour of Des Moines House Rentals.
Afterward, the students joined together for lunch at Legends in Des Moines. Despite the fact that the students visited three very different businesses, they received some common messages that will contribute to their future success. The two strongest themes that emerged during these activities were the importance of maintaining good relationships at work and the importance of a solid work ethic. Students are looking forward to the Spring State Leadership Conference which is being hosted by Boone DMACC at the Hunziker Center in Ames. There they will compete against fellow students and hear speakers talking about more leadership topics.
