ESL - English as a Second Language - Lab

ESL LAB - ROOM 202
Mon – Fri 9:00am to 2:00pm

Ewa Pratt, Program Chair Room 108, Bldg 1

College students who are learning English as their second language can drop in to the Urban Des Moines AAC and work with instructors who are sensitive to language problems they may be experiencing. This lab provides individual assistance with conversation and oral skills. Basic writing skills, composition development, research papers, lab reports, grammar, punctuation, and spelling for students enrolled in any course that requires written work can also be addressed. Basic computer skills are taught so that students can access ESL software and websites. Assistance is given for any course, however, students should not expect Lab instructors to be "experts in the field" within which they intend to write.

Students may reserve an instructor’s time by signing-in for a 30-minute time slot in the ESL-LAB LOGBOOK at least one day in advance of the day in which they want assistance. Signing in will assure students of the instructor’s undivided attention. Students may also drop in, but will take their chances that the instructor will be available. The LOGBOOK is on the desk in Room 202.

ESL Lab ESL students use computers to supplement their learning.
ESL Mary Gillman Lab instructor, Mary Gillman, in the center, introduces new students to the ESL Lab.
