Student Support Services
Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded TRIO program designed to help student succeed in college. The goal of SSS at DMACC-Urban is to promote the academic and personal success of all participants.
SSS offers a variety of student-centered services which enhances the students' potential for successfully completing their educational program. SSS provides individualized and group academic support.
Services offered include:
- Tutoring - SSS provides tutoring in the areas of communication, math, science and study skills. In most cases, the instruction is parallel to the material presented in the classroom.
- Academic/Career Advising - available to SSS students who would like to help in determining short term and long term goals. Referrals to community agencies are offered to those students whose educational goals are hampered by personal/family problems. Career advising, exploration and information are also available.
- Financial Aid Assistance - sufficient financial aid packages are crucial to students. SSS participants are advised of the various types of financial aid available and the methods needed to obtain that aid. Assistance is provided to participants who apply for financial aid.
- Seminars/Workshops - throughout the year, SSS offers seminars, workshops and conferences. Topics vary each semester and are based on the requests and needs of the SSS students.
- Referral Services
- Cultural/Social Activities - SSS members are encouraged to participate in cultural/social activities sponsored by SSS and DMACC. These activities may include educational field trips to museums and exhibits, plays, concerts, etc.
- Transfer Assistance - For those who plan to continue their education beyond DMACC, there is assistance and information available to enable the successful transfer to four-year institutions. Throughout the year, participants have opportunities to visit other colleges.
