Staffing
Procedures for STRIVE
-
Local staffing teams identify students who may meet
the enrollment criteria.
-
The staffing team determines
that the student's vocational needs cannot be met locally, or
student's need further specific skill training to enter the
job market. This is documented through the Individual
Education Plan (IEP) staffing, annual review or three year evaluation
meeting.
-
Students and parents are
interviewed by STRIVE staff and IEP team to determine appropriateness
of STRIVE to meet training needs of the student and identified
goals (referral to other agencies, programs, or services may
be warranted to better meet the needs of a student).
In compliance with IDEA Legislation,
Individual Educational Plans are written on each student and annual
reviews are conducted. Students receive training and related
academic instruction in one of the regular DMACC vocational programs.
The STRIVE program staff includes four full-time certified special
education personnel and five instructional assistants.
STUDENT INTERVIEWS
STRIVE staff will interview students who have been referred
by their local staffing team. Prior to this interview, students
must complete the COMPASS test. To make an appointment for
the COMPASS test, students need to call (515)-964-6595 and identify
themselves as STRIVE.
The student must present a picture ID when
they arrive for testing. A completed DMACC application (which
includes vocational program identification) must be turned in at
testing time or be on file at DMACC before the COMPASS test can
be taken.
