Physician Assistant

Des Moines Area Community College’s Liberal Arts Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees provide the flexibility and opportunity to get a solid start on your four-year degree while earning an associate degree.

A physician assistant is licensed to practice medicine under the supervision of a licensed physician. Physician assistants provide medical care in various settings, including physician offices, multiple specialty clinics, satellite clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, and patients' homes.

Requirements for admission at medical schools are more stringent than DMACC’s graduation requirements.  Check with your prospective school for details.

  1. Des Moines University Medical School uses a competitive admission process to determine who is offered a place in their Physician Assistant program.
  2. They require a minimum 2.8 cumulative GPA for admission, but usually a higher GPA is needed.
  3. Applicants must also take the GRE as part of the admission process.
