This option is designed for students who are unable to attend full time, day classes due to family or job responsibilities. All program entry requirements, curriculum, and policies are the same as the regular, full time program. Students who enroll in the part time option will complete the Practical Nursing (LPN) Program in 2 years and the Associate Degree (RN) Program in 4 years.
- Evening nursing theory classes are typically conducted weekdays at the DMACC Urban campus between 4 pm and 10 pm.
- Evening clinical practicum experiences are scheduled at area health care agencies and start at 3 pm.
- Clinical days and times will vary depending on courses and availability of clinical units.
- Some courses may include daytime clinical rotations including Saturdays.
- Students will need to be flexible to adapt to the program schedule.
Due to the larger time demands for health career programs which include classroom, lab and clinical time, working full-time while attending this part-time nursing program may be a barrier to success and, therefore, is not recommended. Click here for a Sample Part-time Schedule.
This option may be attractive to practicing Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) employees who wish to advance their career in nursing. Many area health care employers offer tuition assistance and other support to employees who return to school to obtain a nursing education. Talk to your Nurse Manager or employer so he/she knows of your interest and can support you as you work toward achieving your educational goals.
