Qualified General Interpreter Training Program (QGITP) Courses

Iowa Interpreter Program (Iowa Division of Latino Affairs)The Iowa Interpreter Program is for Spanish-English interpreters. Students must apply to both the Iowa Division of Latino Affairs and to DMACC to participate in this program. Scholarships are available from the Iowa Division of Latino Affairs. The DMACC courses approved for the Iowa Interpreter Program can also be applied toward DMACC's Associate of Science degree and Certificate Programs in Interpretation and Translation.

Spring 2007 (the semester runs from January 8-May 3):

  • ITR 111: Fundamentals of Interpretation. 3 credits. This course will be offered on Saturdays from 8:00-11:30 am at Des Moines, Ankeny, Boone, Carroll, Newton, and other sites across Iowa.*
  • ITR 120: Ethics for the Interpreter and Translator. 1 credit. This course will be offered on Mondays from 5:30-6:25 pm at Des Moines, Ankeny, Boone, Carroll, Newton, and other sites across Iowa.*
  • ITR 805: Generalist I/T Internship. 2 credits. This course will be offered on Tuesdays from 5:30-6:30 pm at Des Moines, Ankeny, Boone, Carroll, Newton, and other sites across Iowa *. Students will also make arrangements to participate in an internship consisting of 60 contact hours throughout the semester.
