Recognition and Expertise in ITR Education

  • DMACC is one of the few community colleges in the United States to offer a program in Interpretation and Translation.
  • DMACC is the only community college in Iowa that has been approved by the Iowa Department of Education to offer the Associate Degree in Interpretation and Translation.
  • The curriculum is competency based and was shaped with input from key stakeholders representing health, judicial, education, social services, and business sectors.
  • DMACC is the only community college in Iowa that has local, qualified, full and part time faculty who are recognized as state and national leaders and educators in the field of interpretation and translation.

Convenience

  • The DMACC ITR curriculum is packaged in convenient, once-weekly evening and Saturday courses. The ITR curriculum can also be delivered throughout the state of Iowa (and beyond!) via distance learning formats such as two-way interactive video conferencing, the Internet, and web and classroom blended courses.
  • Many of DMACC's Core courses are also available via distance learning formats.
  • DMACC's open-door enrollment policy makes application and registration easy.

Life-long Learning

  • The DMACC ITR courses carry college credit, which allows students to further their education through the Associate Degree.
  • DMACC is developing articulation agreements that will allow graduates of the Interpretation and Translation Associate Degree to earn four-year degrees at a number of Iowa colleges and universities.
  • Students that already hold a college degree (Associate, Bachelor, or post-graduate) can earn one or more Specialist Certificates (Generalist, Healthcare, and Judiciary) without having to take any Core (i.e., general education) courses.
  • DMACC has a successful Continuing Education division that delivers quality and timely training and a variety of life-long learning opportunities.
