Anthony Bock-

Before I started the Graphic Technologies program here at DMACC, I knew very little about design and even less about printing. As I complete my final semester in the program my knowledge in both fields has grown so much. I have learned so much from the fundamentals of design, printing, image and color correction, and have learned design programs in depth including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. I am very pleased that I took this program because I feel that I am prepared for the industry and that I have a variety of career opportunities. After I graduate I plan on a career in desktop publishing and design

I have always had an interest in art and design so my time here at Des Moines Area Community College has been exciting. I have obtained skills and knowledge in graphic design, image correction, and page layout. I have also had a class in Digital Photography. During my time as a DMACC Graphic Technologies student I learned a lot of valuable skills that will help me in the real world. I have become familiar with the Adobe programs as well as press operation, output, finishing, and other pressroom skills. I am currently working an internship at Edwards Graphic Arts, which is helping me get valuable work experience. In the future I would enjoy learning more about digital printing. I am interested in how fast technology advances in this industry and I plan to keep up with it.

When I first started the Graphic Technologies Program, I had no idea how large the graphic industry actually was. This program does an amazing job preparing the students for the industry. The one thing I like about this program is that it not only teaches us design, but it also teaches us the print side of the industry. As a design student, I believe this made me a better designer. I am looking forward to getting out into the industry and using all the knowledge I have obtained in programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. My goal after graduation is to work in the graphic design field.

I found my interest in Graphic Design my sophomore year of high school, when I was introduced to Adobe Photoshop. I started off by teaching myself Photoshop in an independent study class, and have since broadened my skills with InDesign and Illustrator. I have also learned the basics of Adobe Flash and Dreamweaver. After graduating the program next year I would like to go into Prepress and design. I look forward to learning all aspects of this rapidly changing field, and excelling in the Graphic industry.

Graphic Technology has opened up many opportunities for me to learn new skills using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. I have learned color correcting, adding effects, vector art, layouts, typesetting and how to create newsletters and brochures. I have gained knowledge of how the printing world operates from running a press to screen-printing. I also took classes in Photography to increase my skills in that area.

Tammy Grell-

In high school a career in printing never crossed my mind. In fact, I started out in the culinary program here at Des Moines Area Community College. I transferred to the Graphic Technology program because of my interest in the Adobe products. I discovered the printing aspect of the design industry, and my education has leaned more toward the printing emphasis. I have enjoyed my time here, and look forward to entering the industry.
