Emergency Medical Technician - Basic Specialist Certificate
The Emergency Medical Technician - Basic Specialist Certificate is a short-term credit program intended to provide you with the latest information and skills needed to function more effectively in your job or to update your skills for employment possibilities. It will provide you and an employer with evidence of your continued education in a specific occupational area. The education you gain will increase your ability to function in a given area and broaden your skills.
The Emergency Medical Technician-Basic certificate is designed to provide an introductory learning experience for persons interested in the field of emergency medicine. This course includes practical and written testing in the classroom as well as clinical experience in the area hospitals. National Registry Certification tests will be administered at course completion in both the written and skill areas. Area ambulance units utilize EMT-B’s.

| Prerequisite: Proof of successful and current completion of either American Heart Association Health Care Provider CPR or Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR training. | ||
What Kind of Work Will You Do?
- Provide emergency care procedures to victims of accidents or illness in a pre-hospital setting
- Assess patient’s condition
- Apply appropriate emergency equipment
- Perform CPR if needed
- Stabilize patient prior to transport to a hospital
What Skills and Abilities Will You Need?
- Work under pressure
- Take direction from medical team
- Communicate both orally and in written form
- Demonstrate proficiency in all skills taught in the course
What Else Should I Consider about this Specialist Certificate?
- Irregular hours, nights and/or holidays, and weekends
- Criminal background checks will be completed on each student. Criminal convictions or documented history of abuse may prevent students from participating in clinical education experiences. Students unable to participate in clinical education will be unable to complete this class.
