Des Moines Area Community College.

Criminal Justice Program

For over 30 years, DMACC has been a leader in providing Criminal Justice Associate Degree education. The CJ program is designed to provide a generalist overview of the criminal justice system. Exposure is given in the areas of general law enforcement, investigations, forensics, community relations, ethics, corrections, legal aspects and private security.

MISSION

The Criminal Justice Program's mission is to meet the needs of the citizens of the State of Iowa and their criminal justice agencies. This is accomplished by:

  1. Providing students with a broad-based liberal arts education to help prepare them for the rigors of the criminal justice profession.
  2. Preparing students for entry level positions in various criminal justice professions, i.e. law enforcement and corrections (including probation and parole), and private security/loss prevention.
  3. Helping to establish partnerships between DMACC and area State, County and Municipal criminal justice agencies.
  4. Providing a foundation for AA degree students to continue their education at 4 year academic institutions.
  5. Advancing the knowledge of the criminal justice discipline.
