How to Get Your Dream Job

You Can Do It

Do you want to find your place in life? Are you tired of working at "just another job"? Do you want to discover and then use your God-given talents? Wouldn't it be great if someone would pay you to do what you love to do on your time off?

If any of the statements above ring true to you, you are in good company. Most people live their entire lives just working for a living. They count the days to the weekend when they can do what they enjoy.

It does not have to be that way for you. You can discover your talents. You can develop those talents into skills. You can do what you love to do and get paid for it.

What Are You Selling

Sometimes the movies get it right. Consider this quote from the movie Princess Bride:

Buttercup: You mock my pain!
Westley: Life is pain... Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.

Yes, Westley was right. You will have pain in your life - even if you develop your God-given talents and get the "job of your dreams". Even so, I am selling something.

I am selling a way of life. An attitude about yourself and your work. If you are spiritual, you would might refer to it as "Your mission from God". Indeed the scriptures do say:

"Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it." (Psalm 37:4-5)

What Color

I would also encourage you to buy something: A practical manual for job-hunters and career changers.

No, not another book - a life-changing book. A book that will help guide you through the process of finding your mission in life, your skills, and that which you can offer the world.

A book that gives you the inside track on how to find and get that dream job. You need an inside track because you already know that the person that gets hired is not necessarily the best person for the job, but the one who knows the most about how to get hired.

That book is What Color is Your Parachute. It has been a best-seller for decades. It has been chosen by the Library of Congress (Center for the Book) as one of the 25 Books That Have Shaped Readers' Lives. It has a great website at www.jobhuntersbible.com (great info - terrible graphic design!).

I used the book over twenty years ago to help me get my first college teaching job. I have used it many times since. Many of my students have used it and it has changed their lives too.

Victory Waits

Victory truly is close at hand. But you have to read the book and consider what it says. You must not only consider, you must do what it says. When you do, you will experience joy in your life like you have never experienced before.

You could also talk to me about it. I have been known to get small groups together and lead a group study on the book.

Whatever you do, don't put it off. You are too unique and valuable to squander your talents and life working at a job that you don't really like.

It is at all the bookstores, and you can read more about it at the publishers website: Ten Speed Press. You can also go to the Job Hunters Bible Website.
