Format
The BCA212 Challenge Test has two parts: a written test and a computer applications test. Each part will be graded independently and the student must pass BOTH parts with 80 percent or better in order to pass the challenge test.
The first part of the challenge test is a 60 question written test over Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. The student will be allowed no more than 1 hour to complete this portion of the test. All test questions are Multiple Choice.
Continuing on to the second part of the challenge test is contingent on the student receiving a score of 80 percent or better on the written test.
The second part of the BCA212 challenge test is on the computer using the applications. The student need to demonstrate proficiency by actually using the software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) that are taught in BCA212. A total of four hours (one hour for each application) will be allowed for Part II.
Preparation
Students
with the necessary preparation to challenge test BCA212
include students who have experience with the Internet
and computer application software, specifically the
Microsoft Office Suite. Students must also have an in
depth understanding of vocabulary and concepts related
to PCs. The BCA212 course competencies ultimately reflect
what the student is expected to know and perform. If
the student desires to brush up on their skills or terminology
prior to taking the exam, it is suggested that the current
textbook (Microsoft Office 2003 Introductory Concepts
and Techniques, by Shelly, Cashman, and Vermaat,
Course Technology) used for teaching BCA212 be purchased
and examined. This textbook may be purchased at any
of the campus bookstores of Des Moines Area Community
College.
