Format

The ADM131 Challenge Test has two parts: (1) solving various math problems from the business world using a printing calculator and (2) a 5-minute timed test. The first part of the challenge test consists of 92 math problems including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, constants, payroll, invoicing, proration, percent and percentage, chain division, cubic volume, daily sales averages, markup, markdown. One hour is allowed for the completion of Part I. Continuing on to the second part of the challenge test is contingent on the student receiving a score of 70 percent or better on Part I. The second part of the ADM131 challenge test is a 5-minute timed writing using the 10-key touch method. To pass this section, the student must key a minimum of 100 key strokes per minute (KSPM) with no more than 10 errors on one 5-minute timing. A short practice period will be given and then two 5-minute timings will be administered.

See the sample test for possible types of questions. Use the calculator timed writing to practice for the 5-minute timed writing. The textbook for the class is Electronic Business Machines Calculation by Schneck and Giordana, 3rd Edition, Prentice Hall, ISBN# 0-13-571803-1 and may be purchased at the any of the campus bookstores of Des Moines Area Community College. This textbook has examples and problems for all questions on the challenge test.
