Format

The ADM157 Challenge Test is a scantron multiple-choice test given at the following locations:

  • Academic Achievement Center in Building 6 on the Ankeny Campus
  • Academic Achievement Center in Room 102 on the Boone Campus
  • Academic Achievement Center in Room 157 on the Carroll Campus
  • Academic Achievement Center in Room 107 on the Newton Campus
  • Academic Achievement Center in Room 239 on the Urban Campus
  • Academic Achievement Center in Room 214W on the West Campus

The challenge test questions emphasize the following three areas of skill: (1) general grammar, punctuation, and word usage; (2) spelling and vocabulary; and (3) Gregg Reference Manual usage.

Part I includes spelling and vocabulary. The Gregg Reference Manual is not used during Part I of the test.

Part II includes business English and reference section questions. The Gregg Reference Manual is to be used during Part II of the test. The student is responsible for bringing a copy of The Gregg Reference Manual to the challenge test.
In order to pass the challenge test, the student must score 80 percent or better.

Preparation

The Business English at Work textbook has student resources at www.bew.glencoe.com to help the student study for the challenge test.

The student should have a copy of the Gregg Reference Manual available for use during the challenge test. The Gregg Reference Manual may be purchased at any of the campus bookstores of Des Moines Area Community College. The textbook publisher at www.glencoe.com/ps/ provides more information about the Gregg Reference Manual.
