Format

The SDV153 Challenge Test has two parts: a portfolio and an interview. Each part will be scored independently and the student must score BOTH parts with 80 percent or better in order to pass the challenge test.

The first part of the challenge test consists of a portfolio. The portfolio items should be placed in a binder. Part of the evaluation will be neatness and overall visual appeal. Continuing to the second part of the challenge test is contingent on the student receiving a score of 80 percent or better on the portfolio. The following documents are to be included:

  • Title page
  • Table of contents
  • Resume
  • List of strengths/accomplishments
  • Job descriptions of current/previous experience(s)
  • Reference list
  • Letters of recommendation (3)
  • Personal mission statement
  • Letter of application/cover letter
  • Job application
  • Thank-you letter
  • Job offer acceptance letter
  • Research of job opportunities & current salary information for desired location
  • College transcript
  • College program/course information (PIB)
  • Optional—certificates, awards, and work samples

The second part of the SDV153 challenge test consists of an interview. The instructor administering the challenge test will determine the interviewer; however, the student is responsible for setting up the appointment for the interview. Before the interview, the student will need to get an interview rating form from the instructor administering the challenge test. A rating of 80 percent must be scored to pass this part of the challenge test. The interviewer will rate the following items:

  • Dressed appropriately
  • Conversational/communication ability
  • Eye contact
  • Gave details and good examples
  • Asked good questions
  • Listened carefully
  • Answers showed preparation and forethought
  • Informed about the company
  • Career goals clearly stated
  • Self-confidence/poise
  • Quality of resume
  • Quality of application form
  • Copy of the thank you letter sent after the interview
  • Overall rating of applicant
