Conference Table

This is the completed Architectural Millwork Conference Table that the students in the program use for our computer labs.

Jewelry Cases

These jewelry cases are examples of the first time students make a dovetailed box.  The lid has an mdf center with solid wood mitred edges and a patterned is finished with Magnalac® by Campbell Coatings and the interior is flocked with Donjer flocking system.

This project lets students join together the art of designing on Autocad and translating those plans to a finished product.  Although relatively simple, it is a prelude to the more complicated issues of building highly exacting multiple units that come later in the curriculum.

Curving Cab

The curving clean-up sink cabinet in the Architectural Millwork shop starts on the left with a 305 mm radius curved door then it has back curving serpentine drawers and finally flows into a shallow curved pair of doors in front of the sink. All of the curved parts and the curved cabinet boxes were designed and constructed by the 2nd Semester class.  This gave them the opportunity to work with building molds and laminated curved panel.

The Corian countertop and sink was also fabricated by the class as part of the regular curriculum.

Curved Valence

The wave shaped lighting valence built by the class of 2001 is made of pre-laminated panels with a solid oak 25 mm front edge.  Fitting these parts together into a seamless project is typical of the type of work that Architectural Millwork personnel encounter as part of their projects.

CherryRoom

The class of 2002 added two cherry side tables with Avonite tops and the 14" columns on the pedestals at the room's opening to this project in Building 5 on Ankeny Campus.

This was the final project for the class of 2001 - a 12' x 10' barrel vaulted cherry paneled study room in the DMACC Student Union.  It required the students to pull together all aspects of techniques they learned during their three semesters in the Architectural Millwork Program.  The panels are all cherry veneered 3/8" mdf and the stiles, rails and moldings are solid cherry. The vaulted panels have a 4" mitered border of birds eye maple.  The class was divided into five teams that each had a section to complete. As new techniques were used, the whole class would participate in them.  The entire project was then pre-finished and transported to the Student Union and installed by the students.

The competed room is awaiting new furniture to make it a comfortable niche away from the hustle-bustle of the main study areas.
