About Architectural Millwork

The Architectural Millwork Program is sponsored by the Architectural Woodwork Institute local Iowa/Nebraska Chapter. We have members from Davenport to Decorah to Sioux City to Lincoln Nebraska and everywhere in between. There are 22 member firms and hundreds of other firms big and small in Iowa that are in need of good quality cabinetmakers.

Career opportunities are virtually endless--casework, cabinet making, laminating, finishing, CNC operating, assembling, installing, drafting, estimating, project managing, purchasing, accounting with avenues for advancement as foreman, supervisor, plant manager, business owner.  Starting salary for a graduate of the program will be from $10 to $12 an hour.

The program is an intensive 40 week, three semester series of courses that run from 8 am - noon, five days a week.  The program starts at the end of each August and ends in August of the following year.

The first two semesters are packed with information on reading blue prints, using Autocad 2000 and learning to read and use drawings that typical millwork firms use everyday. You will learn how to set up, care for and use hand tools and stationary equipment including CNC routers and shapers and power feeders.

The second and third semesters put all of this knowledge to practical use as we design build and install three major projects each year.
