How to Apply to the DMACC Veterinary Technology Program
1. You must apply to DMACC and be accepted - make sure to put down Veterinary Technology as your program of study when you submit your application (if there is a waiting list, they will accept students into the program based on the date of the application.)
2. You must complete a COMPASS test. If you have ACT scores that are of an acceptable level (check on this), you do not need to take the COMPASS test. You must make an appointment to take the COMPASS. Call the Assessment Center at 964-6595 or 965-7143 to set up an appointment.
3. Students will have developed word processing skills or may be required to enroll in a keyboarding course prior to taking the Veterinary Office Procedures course. You must complete steps 1-3 before you schedule your Biology exam.
4. You must complete a Biology Exam at the DMACC Assessment Center. For the Biology Exam, you must score 25 out of 50 correct. You may retake the Biology Exam one time if you do not pass the test the first time. Click here for more info on Biology Exam study guides. Call the Assessment Center at 964-6595 or 965-7143 to set up an appointment. You must pass the Biology exam before you can interview with the program staff.
5. All students that pass the Biology Exam will need to set up an interview with the Veterinary Technology Program Chair and Staff. After the interview the student may be accepted into the program and will receive a letter of acceptance from DMACC. The letter will give you information your acceptance and notice that you will receive information on attending a Veterinary Technology specific orientation. Please note, there may be a time lag between the time you receive your acceptance letter before you receive information about the orientation session. You must interview with the program staff before you can attend orientation.
6. You must attend orientation. The orientation will include important information about program policies and procedures. At orientation you will register for classes.
Thirty seats will be awarded base on the date of the passing Biology exam from the DMACC Assessment Center. If there are no seats available in the program, you will receive a note that you have been placed on the waiting list. When a seat becomes available, you will be contacted to see if you are still interested in the program. The Veterinary Technology program starts each Fall, so if you are contacted during the year, it would be for attendance in the program that begins the next Fall semester.
