Power Equipment Technology Program Details
Elevate Your Skills as a Dual-Skilled Technician for Diesel and Gas Engines
These are the procedures an applicant must successfully complete to become accepted as a Power Equipment Technology student:
- Complete the DMACC Application for Admission.
- Secure internship sponsorship from a John Deere Dealership Partner: Van Wall Equipment or K.C. Nielsen LTD
- Attend any required information/registration sessions.
Equipment You Could Possibly Train on at Your Dealership
Diesel-powered equipment such as:
- Tractors
- Mini-excavators
- Skid steers
- Forklifts
- Wheel loaders
Gas-powered equipment such as:
- Utility tractors
- ATVs and UTVs
- Zero-turn and lawn mowers
- Golf and turf mowers
- Snowblowers
Highlights
- Earn an AAS (Associate of Applied Science Degree) degree in 5 semesters (21 months).
- Gain hands-on technical experience in the classroom and lab, working with:
- Electrical systems, hydraulics, fuels, and powertrains
- Diesel and gasoline equipment, including residential and powersports, as well as commercial and compact construction equipment
- Apply your knowledge during paid internships working in John Deere dealerships and service facilities.

Internship Site
Internships are held at John Deere Dealerships owned by K.C. Nielsen or Van Wall Equipment
Program Location
DMACC Boone and CITE Center on Iowa Expo Farm Progress Grounds. Classes start in the
fall.
John Deere Dealership Partners
DMACC partners with Van Wall Equipment to offer financial assistance to qualifying students.

- Paid on-the-job training
- Discounted tools: $2,500 tool credit with Van Wall sponsorship
With Van Wall, all the time spent working at the dealerships for the on-the-job training component of the program is paid at a standard hourly rate. In addition, students have an opportunity each semester to achieve pay increases by meeting set academic standards.
Hands-on training is emphasized in the DMACC Power Equipment Technology courses, as well as in Van Wall’s work-based on-the-job training.
