WebCT Basics for Online Instructor Training Schedule
Summer Sessions
Session 1: May 5 - June 5, 2008
Session 2: June 16 - July 18, 2008
- All instructors teaching an online or blended course must have completed the online training course.
- Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion. A copy of the certificate will be turned into the Distance Learning office. Prior to submitting an online grant request or teaching an online course, a Certificate of Completion form must be on file in the DL department.
- The online training course is broken down into 10 modules over 5 weeks. Participants are expected to follow the given course schedule.
- Participants are expected to be actively engaged in course activities, readings, and discussions.
- Each participant will be enrolled in a blank course as an instructor.
- Participants have the option of earning 2 graduate credits through Drake University by taking this training. Regular Drake tuition will apply.
- The course is entirely online, so participants do not need to come to class at any specific time. However, this is not a self-paced course, but one that is set up for participants to complete learning modules and assignments online every week for 5 weeks.
- There is no assigned textbook (all content is online).
- There is no fee to take the course.
- You will not need any specific software loaded on your computer to teach a course online with WebCT, other than a basic internet browser such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari.
Through a series of modules featuring videos and hands-on activities, you will gain a practical understanding of some of the tools and features most often used when designing and teaching in WebCT. By the end of this course, you will have begun constructing the online course you will be teaching at DMACC. We will also touch on additional features you may want to explore later, and provide information on how to obtain additional help and training.
The following topics will be covered....
- Module 1: Navigating WebCT (Week 1)
- Module 2: File Organization (Week 1)
- Module 3: Course Content home page (Week 2)
- Module 4: Creating Assessments (Week 2)
- Module 5: Creating Assignments (Week 3)
- Module 6: Using the Discussion Tool (Week 3)
