DMACC Rolls Back Tuition Increase
Posted 5/07/08

DES MOINES -- Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) will roll back its tuition increase by $3 per credit hour for the upcoming 2008-09 academic year. The new rate will be $107 per credit hour, giving DMACC one of the lowest tuition rates of any post-secondary school in Iowa. The DMACC Board of Directors approved the rollback at their regular meeting at the DMACC Carroll Campus.

Governor Culver and the legislature approved a $9.1 million increase for community colleges, more than the amount proposed earlier in the session. That led to the DMACC tuition rollback. Earlier this year, the DMACC board had increased tuition by $8 a credit hour to $110, based on earlier projections.

“With the high cost of gasoline and other rising prices, it’s important that we keep the cost of tuition as low as possible, said Madelyn Tursi, DMACC board member. “It’s good for our students and it remains one of the board’s goals to keep the cost of tuition low.”

DMACC President Rob Denson added, “We greatly appreciate the Governor and legislature approving additional funds to support community colleges. Their efforts directly benefit the thousands of students we serve throughout Central Iowa.” He concluded, “DMACC remains focused on providing the absolute best quality and value in a college education.”
