DMACC Student Newspaper Wins Awards

The Iowa College Media Association recently honored The Urban Vibe, the student newspaper at the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Urban Campus, in two categories in its 2007 Better Student Newspaper Contest.

In the category of Best Explanatory or Interpretative News Story, John Connair of West Des Moines and Todd Razor of Des Moines received a first place award for their article, “In the Wake of Violence, Schools Consider Arming Officers.”

Teresa Langrell of Oklahoma City was awarded a second place in the category of Best Sports Story for her article “First time in Super Bowl History.”

In addition, The Urban Vibe, was honored as the fifth-best newspaper among two-year colleges in the Midwest by the Associated Collegiate press at its recent Best of the Midwest College Newspaper Convention held Feb. 15-17 in Minneapolis.
